Wellbeing is not a fixed state. Our physical, social, spiritual, and mental health constantly evolve in response to internal and external influences. Shaped by a wide range of factors, a person’s overall sense of wellness naturally fluctuates. For students, these shifts can be even more pronounced as they navigate key developmental stages and life changes. This is why regularly capturing wellbeing data is so important. It offers meaningful insight into these natural fluctuations and equips school staff and caregivers to respond proactively, supporting early intervention and fostering a culture of prevention.

At Komodo, our platform empowers schools around the world to take a proactive approach to wellbeing, enabling them to design initiatives and support systems that truly reflect the needs of their students. Every year, we release an annual trends report to our schools that combines the data collected in every Komodo school into a series of benchmarks which are then mapped against the latest in psychological research by our Head of Psychology and Registered Psychologist, Ilia, who breaks down key insights in the data followed by a list of evidence-backed recommendations. Data always tells a story.  This report aims to spark discussions, inspire new approaches, and support schools in creating positive environments that foster student wellbeing.

While the full report is only available to Komodo schools, our team has compiled a summary of our findings that breaks down the data into several key insights. The report reveals consistency in emotional wellbeing and learning engagement measures and highlights worrying declines in sleep, digital balance, and social connection as students move through school. Transitional periods—particularly the shift from primary to secondary—emerge as critical pressure points. Psychological safety, while largely positive, varies significantly by region and culture.

From rising digital distractions to shifting school climates and cultural influences, the data shows that a one-size-fits-all approach to wellbeing no longer works. This is why tailored, culturally relevant strategies and targeted support during key school transitions are more important than ever.
